About The Book

A village of secrets. Yorkshire, 1952.

Christmas is fast approaching when a dead stranger is found lodged up the chimney of Holly House in the snow-covered village of Elderby. Is he a simple thief, or a would-be killer? A mystery that can’t be solved. Inspector Frank Grasby is ordered to investigate.

But as is often the way for him, things don’t go according to plan. A Christmas to remember. When the local doctor’s husband is murdered, Grasby begins to realise that everyone in Elderby is hiding something.

And if he can’t uncover the truth soon, the whole country will pay a dreadful price...

Why We Love It

Well, what's not to love? This fabulously funny festive treat is perfect for curling up with over the holidays.

Set in December 1952, the story follows Inspector Frank Grasby, disgraced and temporarily exiled to a remote Yorkshire village after a string of bungled arrests. His hopes for a quiet secondment vanish when a body is discovered stuffed up the chimney of Holly House, home to the thoroughly unpleasant Lord Damnish.

Reluctantly drawn into a web of murder and intrigue, uncertain who to trust, Grasby must navigate growing evidence of an secret international conspiracy in this unlikely location. Despite his hapless ways and preference for a quiet life, his dogged persistence drives the story forward, with enough twists and turns to keep us hooked right to the last page.

Set against a  post-war 1950s backdrop and with cast of compelling eccentric characters, the fast-paced plot perfectly balances humour and mystery making for an entertaining read that leaves you hoping for more of Grasby’s adventures to come.

With a vivid postwar 1950s setting and featuring a cast of compelling, eccentric characters, this fast-paced plot perfectly balances humour and mystery. The result is an engaging and entertaining read that left me eagerly anticipating more of Grasby’s adventures.
